The goal in development is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC uses HPSR steel with a low carbon content, which has an 18% higher coefficient of friction. This steel is significantly more resistant to rust than cast steel. Additionally, the entire surface is protected with a 3-micron thick zinc coating, which wears off in the brake pad contact zone during the bedding-in process. Only in this area can light surface rust form after prolonged periods of inactivity.

The brake discs are drilled in a birdwing design to minimize the number of holes while optimizing the cleaning of the brake disc from rainwater and brake dust. The fewer holes there are, the better the wet braking performance and the lower the wear.
